Beautiful Antique Blue and White Transferware Willow Pattern Small Platter, by D. Methven & Sons, Kirkaldy, Scotland, Circa 1847-1864

I am continuing my effort to downsize, in advance of all our possessions having to go back into storage again in the next few months (the builders keep changing the dates!)

I have quite the selection of Blue and White and Willow Pattern which I have collected over the years and used for buffets, afternoon teas, and for display on my kitchen dresser, (which I no longer have) but I have too much for my needs, and so this fabulous platter can now go!

For sale here is a Beautiful Antique Blue and White Transferware Willow Pattern Small Platter, by D. Methven & Sons, Kirkaldy, Scotland, Circa 1847-1864

This is a small antique platter dating to circa 1847 - 1864, due to the presence of tripod stilt marks on the front of the platter, as photographed, and the backstamp on the platter. Tripod stilts were used in the Staffordshire potteries (and Scotland) between circa 1760 and circa 1860.

D. Methven & Sons operated out of the Links Brick and Tile Works, Kirkaldy, Scotland, later to be called the Kirkaldy Pottery from 1870, and produced bricks, tiles, hand-painted wares, spongeware and transferware items.

It is in very good antique condition, with no chips, cracks or pattern loss but does have some age-related crazing.
It’s quite small and cute and measures just 10 inches/ 25.5 cm by 8 inches/ 20.5 cm, so would hold a only a small bird (or maybe a nut roast) on Christmas day!!!

This lovely but also practical and would be a great addition to any willow pattern collection, especially as it’s a small and unusual size.

It would also look fabulous as part of a display of Willow pattern on a kitchen dresser or hung on a wall. It would look amazing beside the more normal sized larger platters, for something a bit more unusual.
