Fabulous Set of Hand-Thrown and Hand-Decorated Art Pottery by Irish Ceramicist Etaoin O Reilly, Two Mugs and a Matching Rare Discontinued Teapot in the Sunshine Yellow Geo Collection Inspired by the Memphis Design Movement

Description

Following my house move, I have further items to list as I continue to downsize my life! I love this potter's work but something has to go unfortunately!

For sale here, is a Fabulous Set of Hand-Thrown and Hand-Decorated Art Pottery by Irish Ceramicist Etaoin O’Reilly, Two Mugs and a Matching Rare Discontinued Teapot in the Sunshine Yellow Geo Collection Inspired by the Memphis Design Movement

Etaoin O'Reilly is a ceramic artist who graduated from NCAD in 2014 with a first-class honours in Craft Design. Since graduating Etaoin has completed residencies at NCAD, LSAD, and An Táin Arts Centre. She completed training in glaze technology and production pottery on the Design and Crafts Councils of Ireland’s Ceramic Skills Course, in Thomastown, Kilkenny. Her achievements include; winner “The Overall Future Makers Award” for her NCAD degree show and acceptance on the “Young Ambassadors Program”. This program sent her to Venice where she worked for the “Homer Faber Exhibition”. She has just launched “Etaoin O’Reilly Ceramics” where she sells her own ceramic art work and functional range

Inspired by "The Memphis Design Movement", a playful, bright, geometric art movement that took the world by storm in the eighties, her work is all hand-thrown on the potter's wheel, then decorated in bright, colourful, geometric patterns, which celebrate "The Memphis Movement".

All her work is made on the potter's wheel using white earthenware clay, and her range currently includes mugs, jugs, sugar bowls, egg cups, and vases. She hand-decorates all her work, using a technique called "paper resist": this consists of cut out geometric shapes, such as circles, triangles, rectangles and zig-zags which are added to the slip finished pieces to create a resist pattern. The chosen coloured slip, in this case sunshine yellow, is then painted over the paper resist. Once dry, the paper is removed, exposing the geometric pattern below, ready for firing. Because of the use of the paper resist technique, each individual piece is unique.

Included here, are two mugs in a fabulous funky shape, wider at the bottom than the top, with a lovely curving handle, and a matching rare discontinued two-cup teapot in a lovely round shape, conical spout, curving handle and jaunty angled lid.

All three items are in perfect mint condition, having only been on display. The mugs stand 4 inches/10cm tall, are 2.5 inches/6.5 cm in diameter at the top and 4 inches/10cm at the base. The teapot stands 6 inches/15 cm tall and measures roughly 7 inches/18 cm from spout to handle.

Similar current mugs retail at €22, but the teapot is not available (possibly it was a special order). A large vase in a simple shape costs €100, so I imagine the teapot cost more than that, ( €120 - €140) due to the complexity of manufacture on the potter’s wheel.

Price is for all three items together and I would like to keep them together. Happy to ringfence a bit of display space in my house, if I don’t get a decent offer close to asking.
