Fantastic Vintage Mid Century Sandeman Port Decanter Bottle by Wedgwood in Moonstone White, in the Figurative Shape of the Sandeman Caped Mascot The Don

Description

I am continuing my effort to downsize as unfortunately we will have to move all our belongings into temporary storage due to builders carrying out major remediation works to our brand new home.
I’m trying to minimize the pain by reducing the amount of packing required to be done!

I’ve quite a few eclectic items of décor which I am currently displaying, and bring me joy, but as everything has to go back into storage again, some things needs to go!!!
Latest on the chopping block are some random mid century ceramics and barware

For Sale here is a Fantastic Vintage Mid Century Sandeman Port Decanter Bottle by Wedgwood in Moonstone White, in the Figurative Shape of the Sandeman Caped Mascot “The Don”

The 1971 Wedgwood Moonstone Sandeman decanter is a collectible ceramic liquor bottle produced in England by Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston. It depicts "The Don," the caped mascot for Sandeman Scotch and Port.
It was produced in 1971, and the DS1, I presume means it was in the first batch to be produced, as later ones say DS2 on the backstamp.

It’s a figural decanter featuring a man in a Portuguese student's cape and a wide Spanish hat, holding a goblet (of Sandeman Hot Port, I presume!!)
The ”Moonstone” finish is a beautiful and tactile matte, white, opaque finish glaze which is lovely and smooth to the touch.

These were produced as collector’s edition bottles for the Sandeman firm and were also available, later in the 1970’s in a black version. They were quite the rage in the 1970’s, to have on display in a home bar or cocktail bar setting. And just as comfortable sitting on display today in a man cave or home bar. A real talking point!

This decanter bottle stands 10 inches/ 26cm tall. It is in excellent vintage condition for an item over 50 years old, but unfortunately is missing its lid, as is often the case! A cork could be used if need be, but for display it actually looks better without the lid which often got discoloured over time.

These range in price online, ( see the last few photos) but very few, if any, available in Ireland, so save yourself the shipping and customs charges and buy closer to home!!
