Brazil countermarked coin

Description

Brazil 80 reis of Pedro the First dated 1830 and countermarked 40. The coin also has some excess metal beside the 40 which is probably a minting flaw.
The countermarking occured in 1835 and was a mechanism for both standardising coin denominations across various Brazilian States but was also an early form of currency devaluation.
This is a large coin measuring 3.8cm in diameter
