Description

Heimat:
Five years in the making, Heimat is one of the most compelling and highly praised dramas in television history. This epic tale of a family and their rural life in a small German village is told against the changing backdrop of a country's turbulent history from 1919 to 1982. From the aftermath of the First World War, economic hardship, the rise and fall of Nazism, the Second World War and the decades that followed, life in the village goes on and the values and aspirations of the people at its heart are wonderfully brought to life in this gripping saga of an ordinary family living through extraordinary times. Edgar Reitz's astonishing 15-hour masterpiece appeared in 6th place when BBC2 ran a 40th birthday poll celebrating the station's greatest programmes and was 10th in Channel 4's 50 Greatest TV Dramas. It has captivated audiences all over the world and will continue to be hailed as one of television's most rewarding and unforgettable experiences.

Heimat 2:
Staggeringly rich...The Second Heimat, which runs 25' hours, forms, with its predecessor, a magnificent, nearly unprecedented 'film novel': a portrait of Germany in the 20th century with few equals in either film or literature...outlandishly ambitious...an often dazzling success. That [Edgar] Reitz is able to sustain growth and tension, inexorable flow and translucent clarity through the entire vast length, and hold audiences rapt...seems something of a miracle. The story is of Maria's son, Herrmann Simon, and his life in Munich from 1960 to 1970. There, a brilliant young modernist musician and composer, he falls in with an incandescent circle of young students, artists, rebels and lovers.

Heimat 3:Concluding six parts of Edgar Reitz's epic series chronicling the last 80 years of German history by focusing on the individual stories of ordinary people. This volume takes the story up to the momentous years between 1989 to 2000, when the collapse of the Berlin Wall led to a reunification of the German nation and an attempt to re-evaluate the nature and history of the country. Set against the backdrop of these historical forces is the personal story of Hermann Simon (Henry Arnold), now a famous conductor, who has finally reunited with Clarissa (Salome Kammer). Together they make the decision to move back to the village of Hunsruck.

Note: There is some minor wear and tear on the covers but the discs are perfect.
