Beasts of Valhalla (George C Chesbro)

Vintage paperback

1985 science fiction mystery novel by American author George C. Chesbro

The fourth installment in the Mongo Mysteries series, featuring private investigator and former circus acrobat Mongo the Magnificent.

Mongo investigates the supposed suicide of his nephew, a computer genius who created a game inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The investigation leads Mongo across the United States and into the Arctic to stop a mad scientist who is mutating creatures through DNA experiments.

The story combines hard-boiled detective fiction with fantasy, mythic elements, and Wagner's Ring Cycle.
