Seachem de*nitrate is a natural, highly porous biological filter media designed to support both aerobic nitrification on the outer surface and anaerobic denitrification within the core of the media. It is used to help control nitrate over time and can be placed in canister filters, sumps, filter modules or box filters.

Key features

- Supports reduction of nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and organics
- High-porosity biomedia with pore structure suitable for anaerobic bacteria
- No risk of hydrogen sulphide production associated with sulphur-based media
- At higher flow rates it functions as an effective aerobic biological media

How to use

- Place where water is forced through the media (for example in a canister filter basket, filtration module or sump)
- Rinse before use to remove dust
- Flow rate through the media should not exceed 200 L per hour
- If higher flow rates are unavoidable, the manufacturer recommends Seachem Matrix instead

Maintenance notes

- As a biological media, it does not exhaust like chemical resins as long as nitrate remains under control
- Pores can clog over time, so pre-filtration (sponge or floss) helps extend useful life
- After several days of use, nitrate should begin to fall gradually and level off
