This can be used as an alternative to the flat nut that comes standard with Switchcraft toggle switches but the main purpose is if you don't have enough thread height on the bushing to extend beyond the surface of the guitar.

Some people think it gives a more desirable finish because it allows the toggle switch tip to be recessed deeper under the surface of the guitar top.
