** Le Mans 24 Hours Winner **

* Alfa Romeo scored the first of their four consecutive Le Mans outsight victories in 1931. Earl Howe's privately entered car, number 16, was driven by himself and Sir Henry Birkin. The open red sports car was a 4-seater long chassis (lungo) coded LM. The winning car covered 184 laps, a race distance record. In a race of high attrition only 6 cars were classified finishers, the winning car out lasting the works entered/supported cars from Alfa Romeos, Bugatti, Mercedes-Benz and Talbot. The 8C was powered by Alfa Romeo's 8 cylinder in line alloy DOHC engine of 2,336cc with Roots supercharger developing about 155 bhp.
