Large 26" Vintage Hand Carved African Wood Wall Plaque Sweet Mother Ghana Cultural Art, Postage available or Collection, Description:
For sale is a stunning, large scale vintage West African hand carved wooden wall relief plaque. This beautiful piece features a high-relief carving of a stylized African mother balancing a large water vessel/bowl on her head while safely cradling two children wrapped along her sides. Often themed as "Sweet Mother" or "Africa, the Sustainer," this traditional design beautifully celebrates motherhood, family protection, and cultural heritage.
The front showcases an excellent artistic contrast with an ebonized dark finish on the figures, highlighted by a beautifully painted polychrome orange/red wrap decorated with repeated silhouettes of the African continent. The back remains raw and unpolished, clearly showing the authentic chisel and adze marks from the artisan's hand-carving process, along with a hollowed-out section designed to minimize weight for easier hanging.

This vintage item is in good cosmetic condition with beautiful rich color and detailing. Please note there is a small age crack, (common with solid single-block wood carvings due to temperature fluctuations over time). The wood remains structurally solid and the crack does not affect display aesthetics from the front, but it has been priced accordingly. No hanging hardware is attached to the back.
