Vintage Mid Century Bronze Figurine Boy Playing Flute Sculpture. Postage available or Collection. Up for sale is a charming vintage mid-20th-century decorative sculpture depicting a young, barefoot boy playing the flute. Standing on a classic tiered circular pedestal, this beautifully detailed piece captures the romantic, timeless style of classic Italian and French musical bronzes... This is a genuine, traditional sand-cast copper alloy (bronze/brass) figurine—not a cheap, modern reproduction or a painted zinc/spelter pot metal imitation. The hollow interior of the base clearly displays the bright golden-yellow metallic undertones, raw casting textures, and traditional filled pour gates that prove its authentic foundry origin.
Condition:
• Excellent Vintage Condition: The statue is structurally completely intact with no cracks, breaks, or repairs.
• Beautiful Patina: It features a gorgeous, rich dark-brown aged patina on the exterior surface with wonderful soft highlights on the raised details from decades of gentle handling. The two round spots inside the base are the filled-in core support holes or pour gates left over from the sand-casting process.
When a hollow statue like this is created, the foundry uses a sand mold. These specific spots show where the liquid metal was poured into the mold or where structural pins held the inner core in place while the molten bronze or brass cooled. Once the statue solidified, the artisans cut down the excess metal and hammered or ground these entry points flat inside the hollow pedestal.
This rough, irregular finish on the interior is excellent news, as it provides definitive proof that the figurine was produced using traditional, old-school foundry casting methods rather than modern, high-volume automated stamping.
