Tom Kerr MBE UWS (b.1925) – Original Watercolour, believed to depict Carlingford Lough and the Mourne Mountains.
A beautiful, atmospheric original watercolour by the much-loved Ulster artist Tom Kerr MBE. Born and educated in Holywood, Co. Down, Kerr was awarded the MBE in 2009 for services to the Arts in Northern Ireland. He is a member of the Ulster Watercolour Society, and his work is held in public collections including the Northern Ireland Civil Service and the Royal Hospitals. He is also a published poet whose books are illustrated with his own paintings.
The scene is believed to be Carlingford Lough, with steep mountain slopes rising straight from the water. Misty blue peaks fold down to the still lough, with soft sunlight breaking through the cloud and reflecting on the surface. Two small sailing boats drift on the calm water, framed by a dark wooded shore. It is classic Kerr: delicate, luminous and calm, and a wonderful piece for anyone with a love of the Mournes and South Down.
