The Shirley Poppy is a delicate and beautiful strain of the traditional red Flanders poppy. First bred in the late 1800s, it features silky, paper-thin petals in a wide range of shades including soft pinks, whites, scarlets, and bicolours. Light and graceful, they sway in the summer breeze and are perfect for wildflower meadows, cottage gardens, and naturalised plantings. Easy to grow and loved by pollinators, they bring charm and nostalgia to any garden.

Growing Information

Sow Outdoors: Mar – May or Sep – Oct, directly where they are to flower, very thinly on the soil surface.
Germination: 7–21 days at 12–18°C.
Transplant/Thin: Thin seedlings to 15cm apart – they dislike root disturbance.
Care: Minimal care needed – thrives in poor soils. Deadhead to prolong flowering, or let seed fall for naturalised displays.
