This elegant Edwardian sterling silver vesta case (match safe) is fully hallmarked for Chester, 1909, and made by PPLd — the mark of Payton, Pepper & Sons Ltd, a well-regarded Birmingham silversmith.

Lion Passant: Sterling silver
Shield with three wheatsheaves and a sword: Chester Assay Office
Date letter ‘J’: 1909
Approx. 4.5 cm tall x 3.5 cm wide
Classic polished silver finish with a finely engraved monogram "JSF" on the front

Hinged lid with good spring action, original jump ring for attaching to a chain or Albert watch fob
Condition is excellent for its age with only light surface wear; lid opens and shuts cleanly and securely
