Stunning and Unique/Rare Mid Century Modern Wooden Coffee Table with Smoked Glass and Acid-Etched Copper Inlay and Slatted Magazine Shelf

Description

I am continuing my effort to downsize as unfortunately we will have to move all our belongings into temporary storage due to builders carrying out major remediation works to our brand new home.

I’m trying to minimize the pain by reducing the amount of packing required to be done and reducing the amount of furniture going into storage.

For sale here is a Stunning and Unique/Rare Mid Century Modern Wooden Coffee Table with Smoked Glass and Acid-Etched Copper Inlay and Slatted Magazine Shelf.

This is a fabulous piece, but once we got our L-shaped sofa we have gone with a triangular shaped mid century coffee table, and this one doesn’t have a permanent spot in our living room.
As everything has to go into storage, I’m happy to let it go.
But I won’t be entertaining any low-ball offers, all the same!!

I haven’t been able to find a makers mark on this piece, or an exact similar piece online.
It may have been a prototype, or a one-off piece in the style of the famous mid-century furniture makers.
I can find similar shapes which point to English-made, possibly G-Plan, but then the acid-etched copper inlay section seems to point to Danish-made.
The Australian Mid Century Furniture firm, Parker also used this acid-etched copper inlay.
I have included some online examples of tables including the acid-etched copper inlay, and you can see the prices being asked for these examples. I cannot find an example that combines the copper with the smoked glass.
No matter the provenance, it’s a stunning piece that I have had in my possession for quite a few years.

The coffee table is rectangular in form with two thirds having a smoked glass top and one third having a fab acid-etched copper top, with an abstract rune-like pattern.
There is a seven-slat magazine shelf underneath, very handy to store some coffee table books.
The wood is in good condition with just some age related wear to the edges, commensurate with the age of the piece. It has a dark enough stain on it, and it might be nice to strip it back and re-stain, wax or Danish/teak oil it. But I’ll leave that to someone who better knows what they are doing!
The smoked glass section is loose and would benefit from being fixed in place with silicon possibly.

A commonly used technique at the end of the Danish Modern period, acid-etched copper tops or inlays were created by engraving wax on a copper sheet and removing the residue with acid. A nod back to traditional Nordic Rune designs, the abstract copper patterns evoke an ancient yet also modern feel.

The table is 47.75 inches/ 121cm in length, 17.5 inches/ 44.5 cm in depth and 16 inches/ 41 cm tall.

The table is perfect for use in a mid-century style interior and would be equally at home in a contemporary setting.
The smoked glass and copper tabletop are very practical surfaces, especially if displaying plants.

A great chance to purchase a very rare item of mid-century design. When would you see the likes of it again!

From a smoke and pet free home.

Hi is the carpet and plants and basket is available for sale?
Cbel 2 weeks ago
@anshi Hi there, no I'm afraid not. I'm keeping all my plants, and the rug, they will come with us when we have to move out. I made the basket myself so definitely can't get rid of that! Thanks for your query, best regards Cbel

@anshi It was crochet, but with a big needle and about 6 different colour cotton yarns at the same time, and changing colour as each one ran out! I'll try and find a link to the pattern that I took inspiration from! Best regards Cbel

@anshi Thanks for your kind words🥰 This is the pattern that I based mine on, but I went my own direction with it!!

@michaelsin No need to apologise! I am open to offers as such, but maybe not quite that low as I've only listed it a couple of days ago! I might consider in and around €350, if I don't get a better offer in the next few days best regards Cbel

@michaelsin Yep, it's super! Such a warm colour, and cool abstract pattern that catches the light🥰 I have a smaller table with just a copper top, no glass, and luckily I have enough room to keep that one as a plant table🤞
