Released on October 16, 1968, Electric Ladyland is the third and final studio album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, widely considered Hendrix's masterpiece and the pinnacle of his creative studio experimentation. As a double album, it marked his transition from a blues-rock power trio into a versatile sonic artist, producing "heavy" guitar aesthetics, long-form jams, and advanced studio techniques.
Track Records in the UK used a photo of 19 nude women (London club girls), which was heavily criticized, banned by some dealers as "pornographic," and disliked by Hendrix, who felt it was disrespectful to his music.
Electric Ladyland remains a monumental achievement in music, capturing Hendrix's genius at its most unrestrained and creative moment before his tragic death in 1970.
