Fabulous Pair of Vintage Art Deco Style Mid Century SylvaC Lidded Preserves Pots Shape Number 2172, in Fabulous 50s Colourways, Priced at E30 Each, or E55 for the Pair

Description

Still downsizing after my house move!

Next up are this fabulous pair of Art Deco style lidded preserves pots by SylvaC. The shape, ribbed decoration, finial and colours give these a stylish art deco feel, although they were produced in the 1950’s, and are distinctly Mid Century also.
The bases have a raised rim, and within this is the impressed number ‘2172’ and the words ‘SYLVAC MADE IN ENGLAND’.

The pair are in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks, just very minimal crazing on the yellow lid only. One is grey with a brick red lid. The other is mint green with a yellow lid.

If bought as a pair, the lids can be swapped as they work equally well the other way around! They have a height of approximately 4.5 inches/ 11cm and a diameter just under 4 inches/ 10 cm.

SylvaC was a trade name of Shaw and Copestake, a company formed at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries. In 1936 the business became a limited company. In 1955, after the constraints of the Second World War, the two existing pottery works in Stoke on Trent were combined on new premises, and this was the beginning of not only a vast change in production techniques, but also changes in the marketing of the SylvaC products. Initially the company was very successful, products having been sent worldwide with 30% of production going abroad. Unfortunately, during the 1970s, there was a steady decline in output, due to the recession and Far Eastern competition, and in May 1982 the company went into voluntary liquidation.
Ironically, since its closure, SylvaC pieces have become highly collectible and this continues to today.

These don’t come up too often in Ireland, and it’s amazing to have a pair, so this is your chance to snap up these fab pieces.

Selling at €30 each, or at €55 for the pair.
