For Sale:
Belgium 2 Euro Base Metals Proof Coin 2024 - Fight against Cancer in Belgium.
Sellers Note:
This coin is of Proof Quality, also known as BE (Belle Épreuve) or PP (Polierte Platte / Polished Proof).
Proof coins are struck twice with specially prepared dies, which are typically polished between strikes.
This process produces exceptional sharpness and a highly reflective finish.
While Proof coins share the same design as their uncirculated counterparts, they are fundamentally different: the relief is higher, the fields are smoother and more mirror-like, and the overall design appears more prominent and refined.
Not every collector of €2 commemorative coins seeks out the Proof versions—often produced in much lower mintages—but I believe every €2 commemorative coin collection deserves at least one Proof example.
Even a single coin offers an excellent point of comparison, if not for the differneces in the commemorative reverse then for the study of the common obverse.

Description:
Fight against Cancer in Belgium
Since its inception, humanity has experienced countless plagues and ailments, which for years and even centuries seemed completely incurable, but which were later wholly or partially relegated to history.
One day - and perhaps much sooner than expected - we will and may have to succeed in curbing Cancer in its many variants.
The sky is slowly clearing...
In recent years, science has made spectacular progress in the fight against cancer, increasing survival rates and extending lifespan.
Although a diagnosis can be extremely hard and the road to recovery can be quite difficult, we should certainly not lose courage.
More than ever, we must dare to adopt a positive attitude in confronting cancer.
Not only the specific input of the oncologist, but also the support of the psychologist and physiotherapist plays an invaluable role.
Without forgetting the valuable help of the healthcare provider or volunteer, of course.
Fighting cancer in Belgium for 100 years
Under the protection of Queen Elisabeth, the National Belgian League against Cancer was founded in 1924, which later gave rise to both the Foundation against Cancer and Kom op tegen Kanker.
A hundred years ago, the foundation was laid for the permanent fight against cancer and for the support of patients in Belgium, which has also been continued over the years by other organizations and movements.
Extensive media attention for cancer as well as many initiatives that have emerged around it provide considerable support.
In addition to the Foundation against Cancer and Kom op tegen Kanker, more recent movements such as Télévie also play a fundamental role in releasing funds for medical research and supporting patients and their environment.
Thanks to the numerous campaigns in our country by all these organizations, there has been a greater desire and willingness to participate in daily life.
These initiatives have ensured that people with cancer today feel much more closely involved in events, benefits or information sessions that are organized especially for them and that a heart-warming sense of solidarity is created among all the fellow sufferers who are confronted with this unpredictable disease.
A coin with a mission...
With this second 2 euro coin of 2024, the Royal Mint of Belgium does not merely want to commemorate the extensive history of the fight against cancer in our country.
This issue also constitutes a concrete expression of gratitude to all professionals and volunteers who have worked for many years to provide medical and moral support to people in what may perhaps be called the most difficult moment of their lives. With this coin we also want to draw continued attention to the need for support for patients and their environment in various areas.
The front shows a stylized rainbow at the top as a symbol of hope for a cancer-free world, containing the country and year reference BE 2024.
The central display of a heartbeat in the form of an awareness ribbon that is often pinned on to express our solidarity with the patient.
At the bottom is the bilingual inscription Lutte contre le cancer - Fight against cancer, surrounded by the initials IB of designer Iris Bruijns, the mint master mark (Erlenmeyer flask with aster) and the mint mark of the Royal Dutch Mint (the Mercurius Staff).
