Vintage Record 05 Plane

A jack plane made in Sheffield by Record stamped "War Finish" in very good condition. The body is clean and flat, the adjusters all work perfectly. The beechwood handles are original and in good shape. The Best Crucible Cast Steel blade is about half used but still has many years of work. I have sharpened and set it ready for use.

From 1939 to 1945 the war effort in Britain reserved many materials for military use only, including green and brown paint and chrome metal. Hence this plane has a plain metal lever cap and the handles are coated with an improvised brown paint that was only partly successful. I decided not to repaint the handles as this is part of the history of the plane.
