Born in a working-class area of inner-city Dublin, he co-founded The Dubliners in 1962, a group that went on to revolutionize Irish traditional music and bring it to an international stage. Famous for his distinctive, powerful vocals and fiery red curly hair, Kelly's raw, unpolished delivery defined the band's signature sound until his tragic death from a brain tumour in 1984 at just 43 years old.
