Large Czech Sommerso Art Glass Sculptural Bowl. c.1960s

A striking and substantial Czech sommerso art glass bowl designed by Jan Beránek for Škrdlovice Glassworks, dating from the 1960s.

This is a beautifully executed sculptural example featuring a rich amber body with a smoky grey rim, an olive-green optical core and dramatic flowing black internal ribbons. The bowl is finished with two individually applied amber lugs, creating a highly sculptural organic form that changes dramatically from every angle.

The complexity of the hot-worked construction is exceptional, with multiple layers of cased glass producing remarkable depth and optical effects. Beránek’s work from this period is among the most collectible examples of post-war Czech studio glass and is increasingly sought after by collectors of Scandinavian and Central European modernist design.
