Fabulous Antique Blue and White Transferware Willow Pattern Large Lidded Tureen/Vegetable Dish For Display, Unknown Maker, Most Likely Staffordshire Made

I am continuing my effort to downsize, in advance of all our possessions having to go back into storage again in the next few months (the builders keep changing the dates!)

I have quite the selection of Blue and White and Willow Pattern which I have collected over the years and used for buffets, afternoon teas, and for display on my kitchen dresser, (which I no longer have) but I have too much for my needs, and so this fabulous large tureen can now go!

For sale here is a Fabulous Antique Blue and White Transferware Willow Pattern Large Lidded Tureen/Vegetable Dish For Display, Unknown Maker, Most Likely Staffordshire Made

This Large tureen is squarish in shape with two handle shaped protrusions. It features a lovely example of Willow Pattern on the interior bottom, running directly into a wide rim of decorative patterning. The exterior of the base is plain white with a small differing Willow Pattern motif on each of the four sides. The lid features the full Willow Pattern motif again, and with a wide decorative band at the edge and a very decorative and shapely finial/handle.

There are unfortunately no impressions or backstamps on the underside, as was quite often the case on antique willow pattern ceramics. I'm pretty certain it’s from one of the Staffordshire pottery firms based in and around Stoke-on-Trent and this piece would have some age, most likely making it Antique (100+ years old)

The dish is large and measures just under 11.5 inches/ 29 cm in diameter across the handles. It stands about 7 inches/18 cm tall to the lid finial. Other measurements are in the photos.

Unfortunately it is not in tip-top antique condition, as although it comes with no chips, cracks, or pattern loss, it has been well used over the years and has all-over crazing and quite extensive age spots as photographed for accuracy. Only what would be expected from a piece of this age that has been used rather than being only a display piece. A piece of character which would be amazing on display, but best not to use it!! The worst of the discolouration is on the inside, so it looks quite respectable when on display.

Perfect for display on Kitchen Dresser or even a Mantlepiece which is where I displayed it until moving house!

Would be stunning as a prop for film, TV or the theatre.
