For sale is a vintage finely-made toby jug by Horace Wain & Sons Ltd (Melba Ware) of Longton in Stoke-on-Trent. This toby jug features THE TALE TELLER, seated and holding his tankard of ale as he tells his tale.

H. Wain & Sons Ltd was established in 1946 at the Melba Works in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent and from 1951 produced their wares under the tradename Melba Ware. They produced tableware similar to that made by Carlton pottery along with lifelike bird and animal figurines. H. Wain & Sons Ltd produced several types of toby jugs from 1946 until 1956 and all were produced to a high standard of quality in all aspects. In 1985, the pottery company was renamed Melba-Wain Ltd but went into receivership during November 1997 and closed. All Wain's toby and characters were made to very high standards and in relatively low numbers.
