For sale is a finely-made toby jug by Staffordshire Fine Ceramics Ltd. of Tunstall in Stoke-on-Trent. This toby is in the form of a seated blind beggar and is the large size, measuring about 7.25" in height. This Beggar Man toby is from the Tinker-Tailor series which was originally made by Wedgwood in the 1950's. When Wedgwood closed in 1965 their moulds were sold and included the Tinker-Tailor series. Staffordshire Fine Ceramics bought the large sized versions and Roy Kirkham & Company Ltd bought those of the smaller sizes ( https://www.flickr.com/photos/23885771@N03/52884255198/ ).

Staffordshire Fine Ceramics Ltd was established in 1963 by Dr. Paul Singh and the business is still active with a factory in Stoke-on-Trent and another in Asia producing high-volume tableware ceramics. They have been making character and toby jugs since the early 1960's through to 1985.

Finish: hand-painted in various colours.
Material(s): slip-cast white earthenware.
Imprint: STAFFORDSHIRE FINE CERAMICS ENGLAND and number 707 moulded onto base along with the title BEGGAR MAN printed on (see photos).
Weight (excluding transit packaging): about 500g
Approximate age: c.1963 to early 1980's.
