Lovely Vintage Louis Mulcahy Small Posy Vase/Candle Holder in Excellent Condition, May Have Originally Been an Oil Burner

I am continuing my effort to downsize, in advance of all our possessions having to go back into storage again in the next few months (the builders keep changing the dates!)

I’ve quite a few eclectic pieces which will be going as they are not really part of my main collections but were just items that I was attracted to. They still bring me joy but something needs to go!!!

For sale here, is a Lovely Vintage Louis Mulcahy Small Posy Vase/Candle Holder in Excellent Condition, May Have Originally Been an Oil Burner

This is a lovely and practical item of Irish Art Pottery by the renowned potter Louis Mulcahy. It is a small posy vase/candle holder, in the dark blue Tenmoku glaze.

It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or any other issues.

The small posy vase/candle holder, have the hand-inscribed signature on the base, but I’m not sure which direction to read it, so the date is either ’86 or ’98!!
It stands 4 inches/ 10cm tall. It may have originally been used as an oil burner, but I never had the wick. It could easily be refitted to be used as a burner again.

Louis Mulcahy won first prize for pottery in the National Crafts Competition in 1975, and decided to move his workshop from Dublin to Dingle. He and his family, left secure employment in television, sold their house and invested their savings in the then very risky venture.
His vision was to produce the aesthetically and technically best pottery and to develop a studio/workshop which would leave an indelible print on the long term history of Irish handcraft. 50 Year later, he has definitely done so!!

Unlike many modern potters he does not buy readymade glazes, but makes his own glazes from natural silica, fluxes and colouring minerals. His clay bodies are blended from stoneware and porcelain clays of the highest quality.

Louis Mulcahy pots are by far the strongest and most durable of all handmade Pottery. They are widely recognised for their unusual long life and resistance to abuse. His tableware is guaranteed oven, microwave and dishwasher proof.

I will have more art pottery available shortly, when I make more decisions as to how much I can keep and what I have to let go.
