For sale is a scarce promotional mug issued by Shire Pharmaceutical (UK) Ltd. (1986-2019) and would originally have been distributed to pharmacies and doctor surgeries in Britain and Ireland.

TOPICYCLINE was a topical solution used to treat acne and contains tetracycline as its main active ingredient. Tetracycline is an antibiotic that is also effective against the bacterium associated with acne, Propionebacterium acnes. This bacteria feeds on sebum produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin and which produces waste products and fatty acids that irritate the sebaceous glands which can become inflamed causing acne spots. Topicycline medicine was discontinued in 2007.

DESCRIPTION:
Size: about 3 3/4" high x 3 1/4" OD at the top, excluding the handle (95mm x 80mm).
Finish: screen printed in 4 colours over a clear vitreous glaze. The screen print is raised and quite tactile.

Approximate age: c.1987 to around mid-1990's.
