For sale is a store assistant's badge from the HANNINGTONS department stores in Brighton. Their first store was opened by Charles Smith Hannington in 1808 and in Brighton were often referred to as the "Harrods of Brighton". At their peak during the 1990's, they had more than 200 staff across 70 stores. Hanningtons were dedicated to a traditional old-world style of customer service offering a ‘classy’ shopping experience but were overtaken by changes in shopping trends that led to their closure in 2001.
