For sale is an antique Associate Member's badge issued by the Primrose League that displays the PL monogram emblem of the Primrose League.. When someone signed up for an annual subscription to the League, they were enrolled as an Associate member and received a certificate along with the badge. Minimum subscription was 6d (six pence), basically the cost of this badge at the time. This is a ladies' badge, having the pin fitting whereas men's badges had the buttonhole fitting.
The Primrose League was a Conservative political organisation established in 1883 and named after the favourite flower of Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881). The aims of the League were to uphold Conservative political ideals and values:
* To Uphold and support God, Queen, and Country, and the Conservative cause.
* To provide an effective voice to represent the interests of our members and to bring the experience of the Leaders to bear on the conduct of public affairs for the common good.
* To encourage and help our members to improve their professional competence as leaders.
* To fight for free enterprise.
The main principals of the Conservative political party were very pro-Empire and pro-Free Trade, the latter which influenced other Conservative-led campaigns such as the Tudor Rose League and the Tariff Reform League. Like the Primrose League, these other leagues also issued their own badges.
