For sale are four promotional pin badges issued by Sellier & Bellot of Czechoslovakia. Each shows the company’s S&B logo and two depict a pair of gun cartridges and the others the company name with the number 145. These types of badges may have been given to buyers of S&B ammunition.
Sellier & Bellot (S&B) is an important manufacturer of various types and calibres of ammunition for rifles, handguns, shotguns and hunting guns. The company was established in 1825 by Pierre Sellier (1790-1870) and Jean Bellot (1797-1880) near Prague, then part of the Austrian Empire. In its early years, S&B led major developments of the percussion cap, primers and their production processes, and by 1835 were producing some 150 million rounds of percussion cap bullets per year. In 1936 S&B relocated to a new factory in Vlašim, which is still the primary headquarters of S&B today. In 1945 they were nationalised when the Soviet Union took over Czechoslovakia and in the early 1990s the company was transformed from a state-owned enterprise into a joint stock company. Since December 2023, S&B has been 100% owned by the Colt CZ Group and exports around 90% of the ammunition it produces to over 80 countries worldwide (as at 2023).
