Original Elizabeth A. McEwen Botanical Watercolour - Poppies

DON’T FORGET TO LOOK AT MY OTHER ADS!

Beautiful original botanical watercolour by Elizabeth A. McEwen RUA, depicting three delicate red/orange poppies with buds, foliage and seed head.

The work is signed “E.A. McEwen” and is presented in a handsome vintage dark wood frame with a gold-toned inner edge.

McEwen (1937–2020) was a Belfast-born botanical artist who became a full-time artist in 1974, was elected an Associate of the Royal Ulster Academy in 1983 and Academician in 1990, and was also a member of the Society of Botanical Artists.

Importantly, the reverse retains the original Elizabeth A. McEwen artist label with her Belfast address, alongside the Chichester Galleries Ltd., Belfast framing label. This provides particularly nice period provenance.

The work is clearly executed in the highly detailed botanical watercolour style for which McEwen is known. Auction records confirm that her original botanical works are regularly catalogued as watercolours, including works around this size.
