Group Accountant

The Opportunity

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Group Accountant who will have diverse responsibilities as outlined below. The successful candidate will report directly to the Group Commercial Finance Manager and will work closely with other senior members of the finance department. This is a new role and offers the successful candidate an ideal opportunity to make an impact on the future direction of the Finance Function.

Responsibilities

This role will include:

Accounting responsibility for non-core subsidiaries
•
Statutory financial accounting and assistance with coordination of audits
•
Management accounting
•
Assistance with preparation and coordination of annual budgets across the group
•
Financial modelling, including projections
•
Projects and process improvements including systems implementation support
•
Tax compliance
•
Assistance with potential acquisitions
•
Other miscellaneous projects.
Due to the nature of the company’s business, the role will be fully office based with regular international travel to the company’s subsidiaries in Europe.

The Candidate

The candidate is likely to be a qualified accountant with the necessary experience to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Group’s finance processes.
Excellent analytical and numerical ability is expected.
Although helpful, no previous experience in a shipping environment is considered necessary.
An ability to demonstrate a strong academic history will be helpful. Attention to detail is expected.
The principal reporting package used by the group is Agresso / Unit 4 ERP. While no experience of this specific package is required, the ideal candidate will be comfortable leveraging the advanced features offered by similar packages.
The candidate is expected to have strong Excel skills and ideally will have experience of financial modelling / forecasting. Experience working in a large finance department, for example, a multinational company, will be helpful.
Practical experience of consolidation accounting will be helpful.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in other languages (Dutch / German in particular) could be beneficial.
