Hamilton Thin-o-matic Pole Star Vintage Swiss Automatic Watch
A beautiful example of the Hamilton Thin-o-matic Pole Star, reference 96005-3, dating from the 1960s.
This is a particularly interesting piece of watchmaking history, featuring the remarkable Swiss-made Buren 1322 automatic movement with 30 jewels and a micro-rotor.
The micro-rotor was an ingenious solution developed to make automatic watches considerably thinner, and the Thin-o-matic series is a wonderful example of this period of mechanical watchmaking.
The watch has a distinctive stainless steel cushion-shaped case, a lovely silver sunburst dial, applied hour markers, a date window at 3 o'clock and an elegant red seconds hand.

Condition
The watch is in excellent technical and visual condition for its age.
The movement is exceptionally clean and operates beautifully. I have carefully lubricated selected critical points, but have not carried out a complete movement service, as I saw no reason to dismantle such a clean and well-running mechanism.
The automatic winding and date mechanism work correctly.
During a two-day observation, the watch gained approximately one minute. Careful regulation may well improve its accuracy, but personally I find this result more than satisfactory for a mechanical watch of this age.
After all, this is not an atomic clock — it is a wonderful piece of watchmaking history, still doing exactly what it was made to do.
A lovely vintage Hamilton, both to wear and to appreciate for its fascinating mechanical construction.
