Stunning Rare 1950's Carrigware Pottery Large Art Deco Style Vase in a Fabulous Mottled Drip Glaze in Mint Green, Pale Blue, Grey, Lilac and Pale Brown

Description

I’m reducing my collection of Carrigline Pottery and Carrigware Pottery in advance of putting all of our possessions back into storage.

For sale here is a Stunning Rare 1950’s Carrigware Pottery Large Art Deco Style Vase in a Fabulous Mottled Drip Glaze in Mint Green, Pale Blue, Grey, Lilac and Pale Brown.

This fabulous large vase in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or pattern loss. Underneath it is marked with the old Carrig Ware backstamp and Made in The Republic of Ireland, as photographed. This dates it to post 1949 and most likely early 1950’s. It stands about 8.5 inches/ 21.5 cm tall and is quite heavy.

Although the backstamp confirms it does not date to the 1930’s it is very much Art Deco in style, with it’s horizontal ribbing around a simple bulbous body and an abstract double curved loop handle on one side. The mottled drip glaze is also very Art Deco.

This would be a very rare and unusual item of Carrig Ware which is will be sorry to let go of, so I won’t be entertaining any low ball offers. Where would you find another!!

Carrigaline Pottery (Carrigdhoun Pottery, Carrig Ware) was established in Carrigaline in 1928 and operated successfully for many years, producing a wide range of decorative and functional ware. It was founded by Hodder Walworth Blacker Roberts (1878-1952), of Mount Rivers, Carrigaline. Its products bear the marks Carrigaline Pottery or Carrig Ware. For much of middle of the 20th century the pottery was the main source of employment in Carrigaline. It made its name in part by producing memorabilia for the 1932 Eucharistic Congress and subsequent commemorative and souvenir items. In the 1970s the company suffered from financial difficulties going first into receivership, and then closing for the first time in 1979. It went through a few different owners and incarnations until it eventually closed in 2002.

I also have some more Carrigaline Tourist Ware items available as a collection and a separate drip glaze small cauldron. I will also be downsizing my Carrigaline utilityware shortly so keep an eye out on upcoming ads!
