YARDLEY LONDON (Old English Lavender) - a vintage ginger jar with Yardley name and images (1960's / 1970's)

For sale is an attractive ginger jar made for YARDLEY LONDON to hold one of their products. Yardley were renowned for their high-quality personal care products and toiletries, and this jar may have originally been sold with lavender-scented bath salts. The image of a lady holding a basket of lavender accompanied by two young girls and a dog had been in use with Yardley from the 19th century and into the late 20th century. This jar comes complete with its original lid.

Yardley London was established in 1770 as a manufacturer of soaps and perfumes. In 1823 the company was bought by William Yardley who gave the company its name that is still in use today. Yardley had severe financial difficulties in 2008 and 2009 and since then has changed ownership a number of time.

DESCRIPTION:
Size: about 5 3/4" height x 5" width at its widest point(146mm x 127mm).
Finish: transfer printed in gilt and images screen printed in multiple colours over a cream coloured background.
Material(s): white earthenware (slip-cast).
Weight (excluding transit packaging): about 580g
Imprint: none. Possibly made by one of the many Staffordshire potteries in operation at the time?
Approximate age: 1960's to 1970's?

Excellent condition. No damage.
