Description:
The coin alluding to D. Leonor of Portugal (1434-1467), Empress of the Holy Roman Empire through her marriage to Frederick III, of the House of Habsburg, begins a new series of coins entitled "Queens of Europe", which intends to portray Princesses of Portugal who reigned in Europe.

Designed by Isabel Carriço and Fernando Branco, the coin displays on the obverse the Empress' coat of arms, flanked by two roses, and on the reverse the figure of Dona Leonor inspired by her reclining statue in Neustadt, in the Cistercian monastery.

Euro 'Collection Coins' are coins issued by Individual Member States.
These coins can not have a face value of 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, €1, or €2.
They are legal tender within the issuing state.
The European Council concludes that other member states should also accept these coins (via their respective National Central Banks [transaction fee may apply]) thus effectively making them legal tender through the euro zone.
