Description:
With the beheading, the series -Portuguese Numismatic Treasures- ends, which recreates five of the most beautiful gold specimens of Portuguese numismatics, due to their significance, historical and economic importance and their rarity.
The name by which the coin was known is very descriptive of its particularity: against the rules, the figure of the queen is represented only by her head, and not by the entire bust.
The queen did not appreciate the boldness and even ordered the suspension of the coinage, which greatly contributed to the rarity of the beheading.
With D. Maria II, the monetary system enters the decimal system. Reforming monarch, it was during her reign that Banco de Portugal was founded, through the merger of Banco de Lisboa with Companhia Confiança Nacional.

It was with D. Maria II that free education appeared in Portugal, the first lyceums, medical-surgical schools in Lisbon and Porto, as well as industrial and agricultural schools.
The political instability that her reign went through did not prevent the queen from pointing the country towards modernity.
