Description:
Closing the series Queens of Europe, which portray princesses of Portugal who, through marriage, reigned in several European nations, there is a coin dedicated to D. Maria Bárbara de Bragança, who married D. Fernando VI of Spain in 1729 .
Designed by the sculptor Rui Vasquez, this coin presents on the obverse the Representation of the Exchange of Princesses, a ceremony that took place in the middle of the Caia river, between Elvas and Badajoz, on a grandiose wooden bridge-palace erected for the celebration of the children's double marriage of D. João V of Portugal - D. Maria Bárbara and D.
José - with the children of Filipe V of Spain - D. Fernando VI and D. Mariana Vitória.
About Euro Collector Coins:
Euro 'Collection Coins' are coins issued by Individual Member States.
These coins can not have a face value of 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, €1, or €2.
They are legal tender within the issuing state.
The European Council concludes that other member states should also accept these coins (via their respective National Central Banks [transaction fee may apply]) thus effectively making them legal tender through the euro zone.
