Diecast Model Le Mans Winning Bentley Le Mans 1924 1st - IXO 1:43

Being sold from my personal model collection is a pre-owned 1:43 scale diecast model car by IXO of the 1924 Le Mans winning Bentley 3 Litre Sport, Bentley’s first victory in this very famous race, in only the race's second running.

* This diecast model from IXO is in hood erect mode, a format it had to use early in the race. The model is a very good representation with plenty of good detail and attractive paintwork.

* After a fourth equal finish with two other cars (based on full laps completed in 24 hours) in the inaugural Le Mans race, Bentley returned the next year, again with a single privately owned car, but with more works support and the same driver pairing of John Duff (Can) and, Bentley Motors works development driver, Frank Clement (GB). Duff & Aldington were the official entrant.
* Specifications were tightened up on chassis features like windshields, running boards and seats to prevent abuse by manufacturers trying to save weight. Cars had to carry one spare wheel, exhausts must not blow dust off the road and cars had to have functioning headlights during designated hours of darkness. Convertibles had to come in after 5 laps and put up their hoods. Then after at least two laps with hoods up, they had to come in and have them officially checked for robustness before dropping them back down. Failure would result in disqualification. Finally, the car companies also had to present written evidence of the requisite 30 production examples.
* Only 12 of the 41 starters completed the 24 hours race in 1924. The Bentley victory brought international acclaim and cemented the popularity of the race as a significant European event. The winning 3 Litre Bentley completed, officially, 120 laps, with an additional 5 laps after a delayed wheel change not counted. The 3 Litre was powered by Bentley's 4 cylinder in line SOHC 4 valve engine of 2,996cc with 4 valves per cylinder and two SU carburettors giving 70 bhp.

* Very good quality, diecast model in very good condition and displays very well.
* Model is in its own clear plastic display case and with all its original outer printed cardboard packaging.
