Diecast Model Le Mans Winning Jaguar C Type XK120 1953 1st - Quartzo 1:43

Being sold from my personal model collection is a pre-owned 1:43 scale diecast model car by Quartzo of the 1953 Le Mans winning Jaguar C Type XK120, Jaguar’s second victory in this very famous race. Quartzo were part of the Vitesse Group of Portugal.

* This diecast model from Quartzo is from about 25 years ago. Considering its age, the model quality and detail are quite good, standing comparison with more recent diecast models.

* The 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1953 was the 21st Grand Prix of Endurance.
* In 1953 a C-Type won Le Mans again recording the first win for a car with disc brakes. British drivers Duncan Hamilton and Tony Rolt won the race at 105.85 mph completing 304 laps. The first time Le Mans had been won at an average of over 100 mph.
* Jaguar had entered three works C-Type. The race featured a titanic battle between Jaguar and Ferrari. However, by 11am Sunday morning, the Ferraris had retired and Jaguar went on to claim a famous victory. Jaguar also finished second and fourth with a Cunningham claiming third.
* Now into its third season the C-Type had been further developed. Still powered by the XK 6-cylinder DOHC engine of 3,442cc, the original triple SU carburettors were replaced by three Webers, raising power to 220 bhp. Weight was reduced by manufacturing the body in thinner, lighter aluminium. Further weight was saved by using a rubber bag fuel tank, lighter electrical equipment and thinner gauge steel for some of the chassis’ tubes. However, the most significant change, was the introduction of disc brakes supplied by Dunlop.

* Model is in its own clear plastic display case and with all its original outer printed cardboard packaging.
