First Overland - Tim Slessor - London to Singapore by Land Rover - 2005 Edition

First Overland: London-Singapore by Land Rover by Tim Slessor.

Six students, two brand-new Land Rovers and an extraordinary journey from London to Singapore in the 1950s.

In September 1955, six young men from Oxford and Cambridge set off in two Series I Land Rovers, nicknamed Oxford and Cambridge, attempting one of the great overland journeys of the era.

Their route took them through Europe, Turkey, the Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal, before continuing through Burma, Thailand and Malaya to reach Singapore in March 1956.

The outward journey covered more than 18,000 miles over six months, with countless challenges involving breakdowns, border crossings, rivers and roads that barely existed.

Tim Slessor's first-hand account brings the expedition to life, illustrated with original photographs and maps.

This is the 2005 Signal Books 50th-anniversary edition, featuring a foreword by Sir David Attenborough, who was involved with the BBC's coverage of the original expedition.

An excellent read for classic Land Rover enthusiasts, overland travellers, motoring-history collectors and anyone who enjoys real-life adventure stories.

Good used condition, with light cover handling wear. There is a small yellow previous-owner/name sticker on the title page, shown in the photographs. The pages are clean, and the photographs and maps remain well presented.
