GLOUCESTER SOMERSET & EXMOOR HOSTELS (Youth Hostel Association affiliated) - a rare membership badge (c.1960's or earlier)

Postage is extra.

.
For sale is a vintage and rare membership badge issued by the GLOUCESTER SOMERSET and EXMOOR HOSTELS Regional Council.

The Youth Hostel Association (YHA) was formed in 1930 and from there the number of youth hostels rapidly grew reaching a maximum peak during the 1950's. The YHA organisation was divided into regions and each was administered by a Regional Council. It is unusual for a Regional Council to issue their own badge, as anyone who joined the YHA would have received the standard YHA green triangular badge. There was a joining fee for the YHA and thereafter, membership could be maintained by an annual subscription or through a Life Membership fee. Members could stay at the YHA youth hostels and use their facilities, for only a shilling per night's stay back then.
