MR. SPENDY - "Save with Mr. Spendy at the Huddersfield & Bradford" (building society). Given to young savers when they opened an account with the building society.
In 1975, the Huddersfield Equitable Permanent Benefit Building Society merged with the Bradford Permanent Building Society to form the Huddersfield & Bradford Building Society. Then in December 1981 it merged with the West Yorkshire Building Society and is today the Yorkshire Building Society.
MR. BUMP - "Mansfield General Hospital Bravery Award". Given to youngsters when they've attended the hospital A&E.
Mansfield General Hospital was built around the turn of the 20th century closed in 1993 and was demolished in 2023 after the Council purchased the site. A new Mansfield Community Diagnostic Centre was built to replace the old hospital under the care of the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The 'Mr. Men' are a series of children's books and media franchise written and illustrated by English author Roger Hargreaves (1935-1988) which began publication from August 1971. Ten years later, from 1981 an accompanying series of Little Miss books by the same author were published. After Hargreaves's death in 1988, his son Adam began writing and illustrating new Mr. Men and Little Miss stories but continuing to sign them under his father's name.
In April 2004, Hargreaves' widow Christine sold the rights of the Mr. Men/Little Miss characters to the UK entertainment group Chorion for £28 million. In December 2011, Chorion sold the brand and its associated merchandise business to Japan's Sanrio, who currently own the rights.
