Omega Geneve 1970

For sale is a lovely 1970 Omega Genève Automatic, a classic vintage Omega with a beautiful champagne/gold dial and the highly regarded Omega calibre 565 automatic movement.

The watch has a fantastic vintage look, featuring an applied Omega logo, baton hour markers with dark accents, matching hands and a framed date window at 3 o’clock. The champagne dial pairs beautifully with the gold-plated case and brown leather strap.

Inside is the excellent Omega calibre 565, a 24-jewel automatic movement. The movement is numbered dating the watch to 1970. The case reference is 166.070, with the inside caseback marked Plaqué Or G 20 Microns, indicating a 20-micron gold-plated case.

The watch is running well and I have included a timegrapher photo for transparency. At the time of testing it was showing approximately +27 seconds per day, 280° amplitude and 0.2ms beat error – a strong amplitude and beat error reading for a vintage watch of this age. As always with a vintage mechanical watch, these figures can vary depending on position and state of wind.

Condition is very presentable for a watch that's over 50 years old. The dial has aged nicely and retains a lovely warm appearance. The case has scratches, marks and some wear to the gold plating consistent with its age, while the caseback also shows signs of use. I've tried to capture the condition clearly in the photographs.

It comes fitted to a brown crocodile-pattern leather strap with a gold-tone buckle, which suits the watch very well. Watch only, with no original box or papers.

A very attractive and wearable vintage Omega, particularly with the calibre 565 movement. It has plenty of character while still being smart enough to work as a dress watch.
