Fabulous Collection of Four Mid-Century German Roemer Tourist-Ware Graduated Wine/Cordial/Shot Glasses with Hollow or Stacked Emerald Green Beehive Stems

Description

I am continuing my effort to downsize, in advance of all our possessions having to go back into storage again in the next few months (the builders keep changing the dates!)

For sale here is a Fabulous Collection of Four Mid-Century German Roemer Tourist-Ware Graduated Wine/Cordial/Shot Glasses with Hollow or Stacked Emerald Green Beehive Stems

These are great examples of mid-century tourist glassware from Germany. They are called Roemer Glasses.

The history bit!:
"A roemer (or römer, also historically called a rummer) is a traditional, historic green-tinted drinking vessel from Central and Northern Europe, most famous for its use in German and Dutch wine culture. The word likely derives from the Dutch or German term römer (meaning a large glass or to toast), or possibly from an early reference to Roman viticulture spreading into the Rhine and Moselle regions.
The style developed during the Renaissance and reached its height of popularity in the 15th through the 17th centuries across the Rhineland and the Netherlands.
Early roemers were crafted from traditional "forest glass" (waldglass). The natural forest-green tint came from iron oxide and impurities naturally present in the local sand and potash used by early glassmakers.
Through the 18th and 19th centuries, English and German makers created variations, keeping the green coloured stems but with clear-bowled versions to avoid altering the color perception of the wine.
In eras when people ate heavy, greasy foods with their hands during large meals or communal toasts, the bumpy and sturdy beehive stems provided a secure, non-slip grip. The thick hollow foot was constructed by coiling molten glass around a conical core."

The examples in this collection are in four different sizes from large to tiny, as photographed.
The largest and smallest both have the Hollow Emerald Green Beehive Stems. The two others have the Stacked Emerald Green Beehive Stems.

They range in height from 6 inches/ 15cm tall to 2.75 inches/ 7cm tall. All are in very good vintage condition. See the photos for further measurements.

The largest is from Koln/Cologne.
The next largest is from the town of Merzalben.
The second smallest is also from Merzalben (arub aus merzalben).
The tiny one features the Coat of Arms of Frankfurt.

Selling as a collection, individually they would work out more expensive!
