For sale is a Trade Buyer's badges issued for one of the BRITISH INDUSTRIES FAIR (BIF) exhibitions during the 1950's. This badge displays the BIF logo and is stamped with the Buyer's registration number (55213). Badges of the same design, but with blue enamel instead of red were issued to BIF Exhibitors.
The first BIF took place in 1915 at Castle-Bromwich in Birmingham and after WW1 they had become annual two-week events. The BIF was interrupted by the outbreak of WW2 in 1939 and resumed in 1947, with it's final exhibition taking place in 1959. The BIF has its own purpose-built exhibition halls at Castle-Bromwich which were sold in 1960 and redeveloped to include the new National Exhibition Centre (NEC).
The BIF exhibitions were a trade & industry showcase exhibition for British manufacturers, as well as that of her dominions and colonies. The BIF were heavily sponsored by the government’s Board of Trade as well as the Department for Overseas Trade to promote British industry both at home and internationally. The fairs were generally considered a great success, each attracting thousands of visitors and trade buyers from all over Britain and abroad. Subsidiary BIF events also took place in London.
