For sale is a membership badge of the ROYAL ARMY EDUCATIONAL CORPS ASSOCIATION (RAEC).

The RAEC Association continues to be a networking organisation that helps to keep both serving and former members of the Corps and the Educational Trainign Services (ETS) in contact with each other and their units. The Association also publishes a biennial journal called ‘Torch’ of which a copy is sent to all members.

The RAEC were an independent corps within the British Army responsible for educating and instructing personnel in a diverse range of skills. Educational training within the army was varied and included the general educational needs of soldiers, schoolmasters for the education of children in garrison schools, training to help soldiers resettle back into civilian life and for the teaching of trades within the army. Their origins go back to 1845 and since have been reorganised and renamed a number of times;

• The Army Corps of Schoolmasters (1845-1920)

• Army Education Corps (1920-1946)

• Royal Army Education Corps (1946-1992)

• Educational & Training Services Branch (ETS); within the Adjutant General’s Corps (1992 to present).

The RAEC ceased to be an independent corps in 1992 when they were amalgamated into the newly formed ‘Adjutant General’s Corps’ and renamed the Educational & Training Services Branch (ETS).

Fitting: buttonhole (horseshoe shaped clasp).
