For sale is a vintage and very nice condition enamel badge issued to a member of the Young Leaguers' Union (YLU). This badge displays their motto "To seek and to save". The YLU were established in 1899 and were an auxiliary organisation of the National Children’s Home & Orphanages (renamed as Action for Children in 2008). The YLU did similar work as the Barnardos Young Helpers League and were organised on similar lines. The YLU had close associations with the Methodist Church.

Membership to the YLU was open to children and was by annual subscription. Membership was encouraged through the schools and the children (parents too) were also encouraged to partake in fund-raising activities for the Children's Homes Orphanages and hospital. This badge would have been issued to a girl member and the boys would have received a similar badge having a buttonhole stud. In addition to the membership badge, an annual certificate was also awarded upon payment of the annual subscriptions.

Size: about 1" x 15/16" (26mm x 24mm).
Material(s): Brass metal with 2 vitreous enamels.
Finish: Gilt.

Approximate age: c.1910's to 1930's.

CONDITION :
An excellent condition metal and enamel badge. No damage, pin tight and in good working order.
